Greetings Friends and Colleagues
Welcome to my BlogSpot! I chose the book "Reading Don't Fix No Chevys": Literacy in the Lives of Young Men by Michael W. Smith and Jeffrey D. Wilhelm.
The title suited my personality. This is my first Blogging Site, so we will see where it takes us!
Hi Matt,
ReplyDeleteShannon also choose the book "Reading Don't Fix No Chevy's" I am interested on how your literacy view points will differ or if you both will pick out similar literacy topics.
I look forward to reading your blog.
I chose that book too as I think it would help me understand the lives of my students, but I also chose Proust and the Squid and started reading that first, it is awesome and really puts the theories we just finished reading in perspective. I 'll try to read the Chevys book, too or read it vicariously through you!
ReplyDeleteHi Gretchen, "Proust and the Squid" also caught my eye. When my wife was getting her MFA in Creative Writing she took a two semester course on Proust. One thing about Proust, you either love him or he makes you want to poke a sharp stick in your eye. I can't wait to read what it's al about.
Deleteoh good! I wanted to read several of these books so I am glad I will at least get a glimpse of them through these blogs! Matt, remind me again.. are you in Gallup? or was that someone else? Are you teaching right now?
ReplyDeleteHi Shannon, I live in Albuquerque with my wife, Kate and two kids. My daughter Madeline is turning 4 this weekend and my son Aidan will be 7. I am teaching at the Harwood Art Center this summer and will be doing my student teaching this fall for my licensure. I really enjoyed reading your first post, it's nice to know a little more about the people we are working online with. This is my second online class and I find them to be a bit impersonal. I like the dynamics that occur in a classroom. I look forward to the blogging.
DeleteI'm glad you picked that book also, it was one of the books that made my final list, but I went with another title. I'll be interested in reading what you get out of it.
ReplyDeleteHello Matt! I'm also glad to be a part of this class, it will be very nice to get a glimpse at a couple of the titles on our book list. This will also be my first time writing a blog, so I'm a bit nervous but excited about it! Can't to read each others posts.
ReplyDeleteHow did you get seven comments already Matt, what am I doing wrong? :)
ReplyDeleteHaha Gretchen. I was thinking the same thing...how do I get this many comments? :) It's nice to meet you Matt. I look forward to reading your thoughts on Reading Don't Fix No Chevys. I almost chose this book, but went with another, so it's great to know I'll get some insight from another reader.
